After a lot of hours worth of preparation, the team finally made their way to Oliver’s Mount for their first official race of the season – The Bob Smith Spring Cup 2016
Having raced at the track from the age of 15, Daley is well known to the staff and the fans and he certainly likes to put on a show for them at what he considers, his home track.
Saturday 16th April Day 1 – the weather forecast rain however, this is when Daley likes to shine as unlike most riders who are unsure of these conditions, the “Rain Master” (which he’s been nicknamed in the past), certainly excels in the wet. Daley didn’t disappoint and showcased this fact in both qualifying and the subsequent races, putting his 600 on the top step with an impressive 1st place in the first race of the day (Supersport Race 1), before crossing the line in 2nd, in the first Senior Race having been pipped to the post by Dean Harrison on the final lap. Certainly a great start to the Road Racing Season for the Stockton rider on board his Suzuki machinery.
Sunday 17th April Day 2 – after a late night working on the bikes, the sun decided to shine but unfortunately, not for the team who encountered technical issues all day. After much misfortune, Daley and the team decided to call it a day however, it wasn’t long before the rest of the programme was called to a complete halt after several red flags. Not the day that anyone had wished for. Daley and the team would like to take this opportunity to wish those involved in these incidents, a speedy recover.
Due to the cancellation, the organisers have decided that the main race will now rerun during the Cock o’ the North meeting in June (18th and 19th).
Thank you to everyone for your continued support at the weekend. The team are now busy in the workshop, fixing the gremlins, ready for the May bank holiday weekend’s racing at Darley Moor before the main event of the calendar, the TT at the Isle of Man in May.
Let’s go racing!Return to news
