Motodex hits the roads with Daley Mathison
The MotoDex Performance First BMW team looks to finish the season on a high by making its road racing debut with Daley Mathison this weekend.
The TT podium finisher and the Sheffield-based team are to contest the prestigious Steve Henshaw Gold Cup at Oliver’s Mount in a new venture which will see the squad branch out into road racing for the first time.
Having sat out most of the BSB season due to rider injury, team owner Tony Dexter will finally get to realise his roads ambitions as he runs his BMW S1000RR Superbike at the iconic Scarborough track.
Backed by Eddie Stobart, the team will now run as Stobart by MotoDex BMW for both the Gold Cup and the upcoming Star of Darley event.

Mathison joins the team following his most successful year to date. The current Moto E champ, he looks set to lift the title again this year, but perhaps his best achievement this season so far was finishing third in this year’s Isle of Man TT Zero race.
Having previously clocked up numerous podiums at Oliver’s Mount, Mathison – who is affectionately known as Daisy – tested Dexter’s machine last week at Cadwell Park.
“I’m thrilled to be aboard the MotoDex Performance First BMW for the Steve Henshaw Gold Cup,” he said. “Following a test at Cadwell Park last week, once Tony had set up and adjusted the bike to my style, I felt immediately comfortable and the handling, speed and power delivery were incredible.
“I’ve always been a big fan of Oliver’s Mount and I’ve been speaking to Tony on and off for a few years now as he has always had the urge to run on the roads. I can’t wait for the weekend; I’m looking forward to putting the MotoDex BMW through its paces.”
MotoDex Performance First Ltd is a Sheffield-based motorcycle accessory dealership founded and owned by ex-RAF Squadron Leader and Eurofighter development engineer, Tony Dexter.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have Daley and Eddie Stobart with us for these two events after such an unfortunate year in BSB.
“Our aim is to run a full road racing campaign, alongside our BSB Superbike activities, for the 2017 season and to have a proven podium contender at the reins for our debut in this discipline is outstanding.
“Daley immediately gelled with the bike and team at Cadwell last week and I wish I’d put him out for the BSB round there two weeks ago as he was immediately within the qualifying times. He was very impressive.
“We’ve been dipping in and out of the BSB Superstock and Superbike classes for the last five years, punching above our weight and scoring points in both, so I’m hoping we can carry that over to the roads for the remainder of the season.”
Dexter has also hinted that next year could see Mathison racing in BSB and on the roads. “Our current plan for next season is a two-rider BSB Superbike team with Daisy and one other and with at least Daley doing the roads concurrently, time will tell – watch this space!”
David Simpson, Special Operations Director at Eddie Stobart, the team’s backers, said: “We have supported Daley Mathison since the start of the 2016 season, and are delighted to also come on board and back this latest development with MotoDex Performance First BMW.
“Daley is going from strength to strength as a rider, and Eddie Stobart is proud to play its part; backing, advising and fuelling the team. We wish them the best of luck this weekend at Oliver’s Mount."Return to news
