ROADS favourite Daley Mathison is to make his Frohburg and Macau Grand Prix debuts this year after joining the WEPOL Racing Team by Penz13 squad.

The Teesside-based rider got the call up to join the team in time for this weekend’s season finale of the International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) at the German track.

Mathison hasn’t raced since this year’s TT where he ran himself under the Stobart Racing banner, piloting the Movuno.com Halsall Racing R6 and famously split the Mugens in aboard the University of Nottingham electric machine in the TT Zero race.

But now he has sealed a deal for the rest of the year, and will line up aboard BMW machinery as part of the WEPOL squad’s team this weekend.

“I was surprised when I received a call from the team’s management as I was without a ride for the remainder of the season,” he said. “I know the team well as I watched them during the TT as one of the leading teams with BMWs.

“I feel very comfortable on the S1000RR and I can’t wait to ride one of their bikes and compare it to what I am used to. It will surely be an exciting weekend with such a big team and crew around. “

Mathison will join a star-studded team line up which includes recently crowned IRRC Superbike and Supersport champions Danny Webb and Matthieu Lagrive, Jamie Coward, Marek Cervany, Davey Todd and last year’s Frohburg runner up, Derek Sheils.

And while it’ll be a whole new experience for him, Mathison is eyeing a solid result as he gets to grips with the bike in anticipation for Macau.

“I’ve not ridden Frohburg before so it’s all new, but I just can’t wait. I’m hoping I can gel fast with the WEPOL bike and get a good run, so that we’ll be in a good position and well prepared for Macau in November.

“I’m really excited and over the moon to have been given this opportunity. I feared my season was over after the TT, but now I’ve got this to look forward to, it’s the perfect way to see out the season.”
